About Thomas

As CEO of the largest member owned mutual bank holding company of its kind in the Midwest, Tom oversees the strategic vision and direction of First Mutual Holding Co. and works to empower member banks to live the mutual banking model. Tom’s role encompasses interacting with executive leadership and maintaining accountability with FMHC’s board of directors and member bank boards to ensure strategic alignment and strong results.

Tom brings decades of financial services expertise to FMHC. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Tom served as president of First Federal Lakewood and held chief operating officer and chief lending officer responsibilities for the bank. His career also includes experience as a senior vice president at Westfield Bank and leadership positions with the former National City Bank and Anderson Consulting.

He is a recognized leader in the banking industry and the community. Tom was instrumental in the formation of the holding company and is an outspoken advocate of the mutual banking model. He is involved with a number of industry, civic, and community organizations, including serving on the board of the American Bankers Association (ABA) and is a participant with the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) Mutual workgroup. He serves as secretary of the Mutuals Matter Association, which aims to shine a spotlight on what sets mutual banks apart from other financial institutions. He served as board chair of the Ohio Bankers League (2020-2021), Americas Mutual Banks (2018-2020), and various community organizations.

A lifelong Lakewood resident, Tom has been recognized for his local leadership in FMHC’s corporate hometown, including serving on numerous civic and community boards. Tom holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree from John Carroll University.
